  • The heal and power restore values for the Stinking Poultice, Bubbling Potion, Blood of Man, and Blood of the Fair Folk potion sets have been increased.
  • Monster Players will now have access to a set of new Critical Protection Boost corruptions. These corruptions will decrease the chance that an enemy will land a critical or devastating critical hit on the monster player. The basic Critical Protection Boost corruption is available at Rank 2 from the monster player trainer. The advanced Critical Protection Boost corruption is available at Rank 4 from the Core Corruptions trader.
  • Armour passives from Monster Players will now have a small bonus to critical protection for both normal and devastating critical attacks.

Servants of Sauron

Posted On: December 10th, 2008
Posted By: frelorn
Posted in: Monster Play

A fighting force to bring darkness and desolation to the peaceful lands of Middle-earth. No one wants to dwell on the nefarious purpose for which such a tyrant might be conducting such atrocities, but fear is sweeping the lands…

Orcs
Defiler

The orc Defiler has learned of plagues and venoms, and can put them to use restoring the forces of the Dark Lord. The Defiler is a combination debuffer and healer; with the ability to use heal over time and resurrection skills, the Defiler is a valuable ally in any battle against the Free Peoples. Learn more about the Defiler here.

Reaver

Savage, brutal, and deadly, the orc Reaver is at home on the field of battle — and few places else. The Reaver is highly skilled at melee combat. He is able to attack multiple enemies at once while remaining mobile. Defensively the Reaver is not the strongest class, but he more than makes up for his weakness with an ability to damage opponents quickly. Learn more about the Reaver here.

Uruks

Blackarrow

The Uruk Blackarrow uses his hideous strength to pull massive longbows to deadly effect. The Blackarrow is the premiere ranged of the servants of Sauron in the Ettenmoors. He is able to pick off choice targets at range with deadly ranged attacks. The Blackarrow can also slow down or root enemy forces using a trap or with special bow skills. At close range, he is a very weak melee fighter. Learn more about the Blackarrow here.

Warleader

An impressive specimen of orc, the Uruk Warleader commands and directs forces in battle. The Warleader is a heavily armoured fighter that excels in group support. He is able to heal his allies and revive the fallen in the midst of battle. The Warleader’s banners can be used to strike fear into the hearts of his enemies or bolster the courage of his allies. Though he has limited offensive capabilities, the Warleader’s defensive skillset makes him an extremely tough opponent on the field. Learn more about the Warleader here.

Spider

Weaver

Using poisons and clinging webs, the Weaver can manipulate and control her prey. The Weaver excels at crowd control skills, using webs to root or snare and poison to stun or daze her prey. She can also burrow to escape enemies or ambush them. Although primarily a ranged-skill user, she has several melee attacks at her disposal to harass the enemy. Learn more about the Weaver here.
Warg

Stalker

Silent and stealthy, the Warg Stalker strikes suddenly and offers no escape for his foe. The Warg is a cunning melee fighter who uses the element of surprise to his advantage. He is able to ambush from stealth with powerful attacks and can debuff the offensive capabilities of his foe. The Warg has very low defensive capabilities, relying on stealth and tracking to quickly destroy his prey, and then escape back into shadows. Learn more about the Stalker here.

Welcome Monster Players!

Posted On: December 10th, 2008
Posted By: frelorn
Posted in: Monster Play

Welcome to the Ettenmoors, the place in Middle-earth where the conflict between good and evil is always raging on. Here, the Free Peoples of the world constantly battle the dark servants of Sauron. In The Lord of the Rings Online, this conflict is known as monster play.  For players wishing to take part in this ongoing battle, there are a few requirements that must be met first.

The Ettenmoors is a large, separate region that is comparable in size to The Shire. Players on both sides have “safe zones” on opposite sides of the Ettenmoors region. New players entering monster play start out in these areas. There are several objectives that players will have as they enter this most dangerous of areas in Middle-earth. These objectives include defeating your enemies in battle, completing PvE (player versus environment) tasks or quests, and keeping or taking control of several keeps or areas within the Ettenmoors.

When starting out as a monster player, there are six different classes to choose from. Make sure you choose wisely, for you only get one character of each class per server. Each different class can reflect a different playstyle.

The Orc Defiler
The orc Defiler has learned of plagues and venoms, and can put them to use restoring the forces. Learn more about the Defiler here.

The Orc Reaver
Savage, brutal, and deadly, the Reaver is at home on the field of battle—and few places else. Learn more abou the Reaver here.

The Uruk Blackarrow
The uruk Blackarrow uses his hideous strength to pull the massive longbows to deadly effect. Learn more about the Blackarrow here.

The Uruk Warleader
An impressive specimen of orc, the uruk Warleader commands and directs forces in battle. Learn more about the Warleader here.

The Spider Weaver
Using poisons and clinging webs, the Weaver can manipulate and control her prey. Learn more about the Weaver here.

The Warg Stalker
Silent and stealthy, the Stalker strikes suddenly and does not offer escape for his foe. Learn more about the Stalker here.

Players who wish to jump into monster play must level up a regular character to level 10 before the monster play button will become useable from the character selection screen. Hit that, choose a class and off you go into the Ettenmoors!   Unlike the PvE side of the game, when you first log into your monster player character you will notice that you are already level 50. You are not however as powerful as you will be able to become.

To make your character become more powerful, you will need to gain Destiny Points and Infamy. Destiny Points are gained by killing creatures or players and by completing various quests throughout the region. Destiny Points are used to purchase various traits and skills that will become unlocked as you gain more Infamy. There is only one way to gain Infamy; by killing players of the opposing side. Depending on the rank of the player you kill, you will gain different amounts of Infamy per kill and as you gain more infamy, you will gain ranks, which will unlock more skills and traits for you to purchase and use.

Travel and Maps
The main way a monster player, or Creep, travels through the Ettenmoors is via his or her legs, but that is not the only way. As players complete tasks for the various NPCs throughout the region, they will gain credit for the number of quests the have completed in each area of the Ettenmoors.

Once you have completed anough of these quests in the region, you will be told to go speak with one of the NPC’s who will reward you with one of three kinds of maps and Destiny Points. As you continue to complete quests, you will gain more maps, some with faster cooldown timers and different locations. The five different maps are: Lugazag, Tol Ascarnen, Tirith Rhaw, Isendeep, and Grimwood Lumber Camp. These are the five different control points that players will be battling over. Depending on which grade of map you use, you will be located closer or further away from one of these areas.

Free Peoples, or Freeps, do not get maps of the Ettenmoors like Creeps do. Freeps must use the horses they have earned or purchased in their travels through other regions of Middle-earth.

You are now part of the monster play experience. Go forth and take part in one of the most unique activities you will find in Middle-earth!
